DREAMS
The Museum should be the first stop for anyone who wants the
Lake Placid Olympic experience!
Lake Placid's Winter Olympic Games
are recalled in the exhibits of the 1932 and 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympic Museum. Begin your journey through time in ancient Greece, where the Olympic Movement got its start, and wind your way through history into the future, where skeleton and women's bobsledding will be full medal sports in 2002.
* Explore the history and heritage of winter sports in Lake
Placid, the first winter resort in the United States, through memorabilia,
photographs, videos, etc.
* Relive the glory, excitement, and disappointment of the Olympics through exhibits and displays, both permanent and temporary, honoring our "Hometown Heroes" (Lake Placid has sent athletes to every Winter Olympics) and the men and women of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic Games.
* Learn about the Olympic Regional
Development Authority and its mission in maintaining all Olympic sites for public use and recreation, as well as international competition.
* See the first medal ever awarded at a Winter Olympics, won by Lake Placid native Charles Jewtraw (speedskating).
* Trace the history of Olympic
boycotts, from the most petulant to the most political.
* Visit the site of "the greatest sports moment of the century" -- "the Miracle on Ice."
