Description

The Newport Sports Museum was founded 16 years ago by John W. Hamilton, who spent more than half a century amassing a vast collection of sports memorabilia that offers a unique look at the history and excitement of virtually all sports. Mr. Hamilton believed passionately that sports and athletics serve as a turning point in the lives of young people.

Our unique approach utilizes professional athletes who volunteer their time to come to our facility and speak to large groups of children about the importance of staying in school, off drugs and away from gangs. Each athlete has a very personal and motivating story to share, illustrating their core strengths of hard work, determination and ability to succeed against the odds and flourish in sports.

In the last year alone, over 5800 children were able to learn from accomplished athletes and sports professionals through our youth outreach education programs; many of whom had free transportation provided by the museum. Additionally, 7500 visitors toured the museum free of charge with their families.
